Jobseeker's Allowance sanctions

14 August 2015

What is it? The Department for Work and Pensions can apply sanctions to Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) claimants if they believe they have not met the rules for claiming. A sanction means that benefit is stopped or reduced for either a fixed or open-ended period of time.

Example statistic: In March 2015 there were 301 JSA claimants who received an adverse sanction decision. Towards the end of 2013 the numbers had been up around 600 per month.
