International migration profile (Census 2011)

22 August 2014

What is it? The Census 2011 provides detailed information about residents of the district who were born overseas. This includes details about ethnicity; country of birth; arrival dates and arrival ages; and language. These details have now been brought together in a new Profile to help show the diversity of different areas, and how this diversity has changed since the census in 2001. The Profile is available for areas at a range of geographic scales, including wards, the Seven Areas, and Priority Neighbourhoods.

Example statistic: In Wakefield East ward, the size of the ethnic minority population has increased from 13.7% of the total population in 2001, to 31.6% of the total population in 2011. Of the population born outside the UK, 891 were born in Poland and 791 were born in Pakistan, and 24.2% were aged under 16 when they arrived. 15.2% of the total population arrived in the Wakefield East ward from overseas between 2001 and 2011.

Where to find it: The Profile is available at Profiles ... Population.
