December Jobseekers Allowance data added

What is it? The JSA claimant count records the number of people claiming Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) and National Insurance credits at Jobcentre Plus local offices. This is not an official measure of unemployment, but is a reliable statistic available for areas smaller than Local Authorities and is published monthly.

Example statistic: Across Wakefield District in December 2013, 3.3% of the working age population were claiming JSA. The number of claimants in December was 6,915 people. This was 135 fewer people than the previous month and 2,233 people lower than the same month last year (December 2012).
