Unemployment Bulletin for September 2013

12 November 2013

The Wakefield Together Partnership has pledged to strive to create job opportunities, raise skill levels and help local people into employment. The Unemployment Bulletin summarises the current levels of claiming Job Seekers Allowance, broken down to ward level. Maps show the variation in the claimant count down to neighbourhood level (LSOA).

Labour market data for September 2013 shows claimant count unemployment in the Wakefield district fell for the 6th consecutive month. The number of Wakefield district residents out of work and claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) now stands at 8,034 or 3.8% of the working age population which is slightly lower than the regional (4.1%) but above that of GB as a whole (3.2%). Over the month, the number of female JSA claimants fell by 194 (-6.3%) to a rate of 2.7% and male claimants declined by 366 (-6.6%) to 4.9%. At sub district level, claimant count unemployment decreased in all but one of the district's 21 wards.
